Louça de Deus

Patrício left the village of Maragogipinho, traveling along the Jaguaripe River, in a canoe crammed with miniature clay plates, jugs, and pots, heading for the city of Nazaré das Farinhas.

Arriving in Nazaré, Patrício exhibited his pieces in the old port square during Holy Week. The locals loved them, especially the children, who enjoyed the new toys. The following year, Patrício returned with more sophisticated work, featuring new forms of clay objects. Thus began the Caxixis Fair, the largest ceramics event in Latin America. Nowadays, every Holy Thursday, a great deal of activity begins in Praça dos Arcos in downtown Nazaré, creating a spectacle in itself with the arrival of the potters, who return to the city each year with countless pieces of various designs and shapes, continuing the tradition.
